Io Burgard and Nitsa Meletopoulos may have different artistic approaches, but their works share a common movement for exploring transitions and boundaries.
Io Burgard creates works that celebrate human movement and fluidity. Through slick drawings, paintings and sculptures, often inspired by ancient statues, she reflects on the idea of transition and transformation. Her work plays with the symbolic of the transition from one space to another and from the past to the future.
Nitsa Meletopoulos, on the other hand, is a ceramic artist whose works oscillate between art, design and sculpture. Inspired by art history, pop culture and kitsch, she creates colourful ceramics that maintain a balance between sculptural aesthetics and functional art. Her works draw inspiration from nature and its imitation by bringing elements of nature into architecture, blurring the boundaries between the two.
Despite their different forms of expression, Io Burgard and Nitsa Meletopoulos share a common sensibility for the boundaries and transitions of the human experience and reflect these in their works in various, eclectic, fascinating ways.
